Year 5 Production

The year 5’s have been working on a production this term and after a ton of rehearsals we have preformed days ago and year 5 want to share our thoughts. Our production play name is called Hanging Onto The Bottom Of The World, our production was based of Australian history with a pinch of comedy. And it was exciting to see our parents see our work and effort we have put into our play.

The production had scenes such as brides, first fleet, taxation and customs, gold rush, federation and women rights. My role was the 2nd federationist which meant I was in the federationist scene which was placed like cricket game with anti billites as batsmen and federationist as fielders, what made this scene very funny was seeing 2 people be dragged off the stage! But even though I had one line I still mastered that line and I showed lots of expression in each of the play. Even thought I had one line and one role I still had to have a few more roles, like I was the bridesmaid for Queensland as I got the chance to hear the other brides crybaby and pipsqueak. I was also a convict that had to make the colonies of Australia and listen to the soldiers and Governors. Nearly in every scene the crowd always laughed especially when the tea ladies came on serving cup of tea and sandwiches to the crowd unexpectedly! Or when Queen Victoria came in on a tricycle!

We did have to do rehearsal in order to get the play perfect and running smooth which was a lot of trial and error. Something that was confusing was that our scene was being played so many times that I couldn’t see the other scenes being done until a few days! But when we did finally see the other scenes and cast doing their rehearsals it was Funny seeing the other people messing up on their lines. Something I noticed when we did rehearsals was that they seemed longer than the actual production performance, that was probably because people kept messing up.

There were a lot of challenges to face like sometimes my scene wouldn’t go smooth because some people kept forgetting their lines especially the commentators so I had to wait longer but in the final production it was perfect. Something else that was difficult was when we finally got props and costumes to use it was hard to get into the costumes for some people or that the props distract people which was the reason why we lost the original tiara for Tasmania with Tasmanian Devils on it. But apart from the costumes, forgetting lines and props rehearsals and the final play went smoothly. Some PLA’s I showed during rehearsals and the final production was courage because it’s nervous to be on stage with a bunch of people watch you at the same time but with courage it felt like I was normal of that forgot that people were watching us! I also showed knowledge because the more we started to get used to our characters and expressions.

During rehearsals we also had to see other scenes and maybe learn from others. When I saw other people say their lines I could realise that some people liked having one line or lots of lines as other wanted more lines or thought the t was frustrating learning a lot of lines. Many people not knowing what drama or not liking acting found out in the production that they liked acting.  Sometimes people who didn’t even have lines at the start and only had to do actions then into lots of lines to say during different scenes. Some highlights of the play is when I got to hear other scenes I weren’t in like the gold rush scene when I had a big break and a bit of time to waste since it was dark and we couldn’t do anything and it was cool seeing all of the lights change colours as it seeps into the dark backstage.

What performance or musical had you watch and what was it about if not what would be a great performance or musical to watch?

Convict Day Recount

As the groups were shouting we were thinking about our play wer were going to act. It was convict day and were were doing drama in the classroom with the theme of first fleet. The teacher had to give us a script then we had to act it out. ‘One of our acts was about me being a judge sentencing convicts for transportation. We also created love tokens and learnt calligraphy. We made dimensions of the ships and has our Meet the Convict afternoon. That was about sharing what we have known about the first fleet.

“Pose!” shouted Miss Tirtilas. I put on a cute pose, my partner Alex did a dab. Some year fours went to Miss Tirtilas classroom to do theatre sports because it was a group rotation. So we had done some activities one of them a game to introduce us so we had to do a dance with our name in it and every one else had to copy it. And I have to admit it was very funny. So basically theatre sports was my favourite activity.

Do you like drama and why see you on the next post?
