Family Celebrations

Spending time wth your family is important especially since in holidays and celebrations, but some families are different in traditions and culture so I’ll show you what celebrations our family does. But before I tell you the celebrations I do what celebrations are there? Mostly depending on where you live what you celebrate is different like Americans celebrate Thanksgiving and Mexicans celebrate Day of the dead.

Our family celebrates Valentine’s Day which is celebrated in February, for people who don’t know what Valentine’s Day is it’s a day where you gift roses or gifts to loved ones as for us we get a rose to keep in our rooms. We it’s exciting for us since my brothers birthday is a few days after Valentine’s Day.

We also celebrate Easter which is celebrated in April on Easter Sunday where the Easter bunny puts chocolate egg around people’s backyards (mostly the backyards of children) and then the next day children come to collect the eggs. Most people celebrate Easter the death of Jesus which happened on Good Friday.

Since my family is part Vietnamese we celebrate Chinese New Year which not many people celebrate because it has no meaning to them. But for my family we care, we get our cousins to come over and have a big lunch and all of the kids get red envelopes with money inside of them because the colour red scares away bad luck.

We also celebrate Halloween but not as much as Christmas or Easter, many people don’t like Halloween because it’s part of a story of Jesus, it’s mostly all about fear and horror or that they’re too old to trick or treat! But Halloween is when people decorate their houses with spooky decor like spiders, cobwebs and carve pumpkins into jack o lanterns. On October 31st people go to house and get lollies to probably sweeten the spooky night.

Christmas the jolly celebration of the year! Like all other families we celebrate Christmas, if you are not sure what Christmas is in the month of December where people get ready for 25th of December which is Christmas Day, people like to count down to Christmas with a advent calendar which on every day until Christmas you get a little treat of item. They also get fir trees and decorate them with ornaments, lights and a star at the top. Many people like me also come to New York City where it snows mostly and makes a really dreamy place to wake up on Christmas Day. On the night of Christmas Eve (December 24th) Santa comes to people’s houses and place presents under their trees but many don’t believe in Santa as other people believe in this spirit and place milk and cookies for Santa to eat. On Christmas Day people come to their Christmas trees and open the presents from Santa and family and friends, some people also like to invite family over for a Christmas lunch or dinner to enjoy the jolly spirit! Many people don’t know this but Christmas is all about the birth of Jesus and some people like to sings carols based on the birth of Jesus in their homes or on the streets.

New Years Eve is a exciting celebration for all because of the final minutes and seconds of the year and to move onto next year for the fun to repeat again. The last day of December at night people like to come to the city and see fireworks and stay for the last seconds of the year. Many new channels like to place countdowns to the next year. And once it hits midnight the next year will come for more exciting celebrations and events!

What celebration do you or your family enjoy the most and why?
