Toonallook Camp

We have just came back from Toonallook leaving everyone tired but doesn’t mean we can’t make a blog post on how lovely this camp was! If you don’t know what Toonallook is like it’s a camp site for only our school and the area also had other school camp sites too. Unlike Sovereign Hill Toonallook we get to stay for 4 days and 3 nights! The word Toonallook is the aboriginal word for ‘home of fish’ since near Toonallook there are fishing areas.

Some of the things I liked about this camp is when we got to go kayaking because we got to paddle out into the ocean and did a fun game of soccer but kayaking, we also got to race on our kayaks back to the shore and some people got to tip their kayaks over and we also got to take a dip in the cold ocean water. I also liked the koala spotting over at Raymond island because we got to ride our bikes around Raymond island and stop by at area which was loaded with koala’s! Some parts of the area were really rife to ride in like the heavy sand or the tree roots, but in the end of the bike ride we managed to see 31 koala’s.

Something I found really challenging was fishing because once we putted our bait into the water it just stood there waiting for it to escape the water of the ocean. Since fishing is basically not waiting it was a lot of waiting! We had waited so long leading our fishing lines in the ocean but apparently the fishes had already eaten lunch! The Toona photo rally was something else that was very hard because you were sighed a picture and had to find the location of where the picture was taken then had to memorise some letter them had to write them down. But some of the locations we have not even seen which made it really hard. People kept asking people if they had found the locations of some of the photos, some people were booming through it as others like us were already on the first photo!

At Toonallook there were a lot of character strengths we had to show like curiosity because some activities people had never done like fishing or kayaking which made the activity more exciting for them. Courage was one of them too because in the bike riding at Raymond Island there were area’s of the path way were so hard to ride through people had to get off their bikes as other attempted to ride through the sand and a few succeeded. Communication was also very important because in kayaking, bike riding or the photo rally without communication then we would be on our own path, in kayaking we had to communicate which way we had to go so we didn’t get lost in the ocean, in bike riding we had to communicate where we were going and if we had to stop if there was a car, in the photo rally we had to communicate to our partner where the location could possibly be.
